Cool! The up-and-coming eco-friendly city of Santa Monica has decided to start recycling oils and grease.
That's right-the very same kind of high cholesterol inducing, artery clogging substances found in the frying bins of most restaurants and some homes!

The city's recycling coordinator Wes Thompson said Monday that Santa Monica has partnered with Los Angeles-based GeoGreen to convert the cooking waste into biofuel with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.

Restaurants can dump their shiz at parking structures 2 through 6 and private residents can recycle their FOG (fat, oil and grease) at the city's Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2500 Michigan Ave. (East of the 10 Freeway at Cloverfield. Hours: Wed - Fri 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; Sat. 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m).

For the first time ever, the historic and famous Biltmore Hotel is opening it's grand ballroom doors to host a free Halloween party in the Gallery Bar!

In case you didn't know, the Biltmore is where the Academy Awards were held throughout the 1920s and part of the 1930s. It's also where they've filmed scenes from Ghostbusters, Chinatown and AMC's hit tv show, Mad Men.

Event highlights include live music and a costume contest with prizes for best period costume from the 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s (grand prize is a free nights stay).

Admission is free and drinks range between $10-$16 a pop. Looks like good, classy Halloween times!

A Little Wine with Your Whine

~~Neato!~~ Awesome-we're getting another vineyard!

And by "we", I mean "Los Angeles".
And by "another" I mean, another one besides the San Antonio Winery (which we have heard mixed reviews about).

The Westlake Village Inn has announced the transformation of part of their land (which used to house an old gas station)into a vineyard which will grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah grapes.

UnFortunately, they also intend to open a coffee tasting room, which will ~~ruin our classy wine buzz~~ sober us up before leaving.

No word yet on when this vineyard/winery will be opening, but check the Westlake Village Inn website above for updates!

A Night of Serendipity is an eclectic event where fantasy art, music and dance! An art speakeasy and interactive performance venue, a nature theme comes alive with dancing girls dressed as nymphs and spontaneous serenades amongst a backdrop of art and fashion. KCRW DJ Anthony Valdez will be spinning and there will be other various musical guests!

The event takes place inside the 3,600 square foot Madera Design House with suggest attire being "avant garde".

Aw, we love it when people get into the Halloween spirit (pun intended)!

Wow! We are so channeling our inner nerd here, but this...looks...AWESOME!

Next Saturday, October 17th, you too can frolic in the company of cast members from the original Star Trek such as guest of honor, Leonard Nimoy! (and cast members from Dexter, Scrubs and the hottie from Chuck)

The charity gala will be happening at the elegant ballroom of the old Alexandria Hotel.
There will be a silent auction, awards show and finale party with special guest DJs.
