We love Halloween.
In fact, if Halloween was a person, we would obsessively stalk them like a creepy character from a Lifetime made-for-tv movie.

Halloween...is like New Years...but minus the year being new and plus costumes and candy, which in our eyes makes it even better than New Years!

Revealing comments aside, LA is a wonderful place to be for Halloween, even if you don't know someone brave enough to host a party in their $1400 a month studio. Most bars, clubs and (yes!) museums open their doors for the booze-infused and costume-clad. In fact, this year, there will be Halloween happenings for two weeks!

This Wednesday, September 19th, a group of ~~hippies~~ people will take over various parking spaces around LA and turn them into garden-like settings. This day hath cleverly been dubbed PARK(ing) Day!

As if we weren't already aware, the point of this tomgooderie is to prove that we live in a city without a whole lot of parks or green areas.

While we love artistic expressions, plants, the earth and after parties*, we also feel that:

People don't move to a city looking for parks. They move to a city because...well, it's a city. You want greenery-move to a rural area...or be smart enough not to plant your roots (har har) in a well known Metropolitan area!
Directly contacting the fine city folks at the LA Parks and Recreation Department could be handy. After all, these few people are the ones who actually control these things. The rest of already waste enough time on our daily commutes...must we spend even more time searching for parking?

*Even hippies love good times! The After Party is from 7 to 11pm at the A+D Museum across from LACMA. Think a faux apple orchard, lounge areas, KCRW DJ's and free antioxidant cocktails.

The team known as Thread Show are starting a whole month early with a fashion show this Saturday, the 6th because...they're so indie.

But wait. It's not just a fashion show/place to buy said fashion!
There's also going to be drinks of the alcoholic persuasion, an art show, pool party and DJs, because...they're so indie.

That's right.
You can be all indie-y and buy your I'm-not-trying-to-hard shiz early...and then when the more well known designers show their collections you can just blow a puff of long bangs out of your face and be like "Yeah, good job, jerks!"* and then throw another vintage record on your 45*.

All good times snideness aside, it looks totally fun! Uh, we mean, it looks totally deck.

As a dirty, barefooted child in Missouri, we used to watch the movie 9 to 5 and dream about the day when we grew up and moved to the city and became a secretary of some sort. We imagined it would involve quite a lot of singing, poisoning people and getting demeaned in an elevator...

Anywho, 9 to 5 has been adapted for the stage and will be performed at the Ahmanson Theatre from September 6th to October 19th.

Dolly is always good times! We suggest any 9 to 5'ers go and see it!

The Galley Makes Us Giddy

The Galley-Santa Monica's oldest restaurant and bar is 74, but is still alive and kick'n!

We can attest to that-We dined there on our birthday last month...and then went back a few weeks later on a date!
Oh, the delishisness that is steak and fish and potatoes and pastas!

As you may already know, we like a little Sinatra with our martinis. That being said, we were thrilled to find out that the Galley has stocked their free jukebox with plenty of Patsy, Tony and Frank.

The seating-it's indoors and out.
Both are glittering, lit up with colorful Christmas lights entwined in old fishing nets and surrounded by memorabilia from the classic film, Mutiny on the Bounty.

At 74 years of age, you'd expect to see mostly old timers at this joint. Still, while its definitely not the scene for college kids cruising Main Street, the Galley is crowded on any given night with friends and couples from their 20s on up.

All in all, the Galley-She's like that old broad that wears festive holiday sweaters that she bedazzled herself back in 89'. She can tell you some strange and slightly dirty stories about the "good old days" and cook up an amazing meal. You know her-She's a little crazy, but definitely good times!

LA Cats and Dogs Cross Their Hind Legs in Horror

Now this is one ordinance that would make Bob Barker proud!

Effective October 1, a new city law requires pet owners to spay or neuter their pets that are 4 months or older. The law is intended to cut down on the over population of animal shelters.

Underage animal sex is one of the leading causes of over-population.

We're skeptical...how are they going to know what dogs are "fixed"? Sure, the male dogs are easy to spot if unneutered, but what about all those skanky bitches?

As an added incentive, spayed and/or neutered animals can be licensed for a mere $15, as opposed to un-spayed/un-neutered animals, who register at $100.

Innocent fun...or crazy, Elizabethan-era role-playing sex-orgy waiting to happen?!

While we're all for decreasing the number of animals that die in shelters, we did find a bit of advice on the LA Animal Services website to be a bit odd/funny/disturbing/something we can't put our finger on.

The friendly folks at the LA Animal Services say, "Dogs and cats are often safely spayed during pregnancy or while in heat. If you do not want the litter, spaying your pet could be an option, even if she is already pregnant or in heat."

Just a friendly cat-on-cat hug? YEAH RIGHT! That's what they want you to think!

In other words-They advocate doggy and kitty abortions!

Now we are very liberal, but...What about a doggy/kitties right to choose?!

People talking* through movies is one of our biggest pet peeves...especially when they spit when they talk or have weird coffee breath!

We hate running, but you know what we hate even more? CANCER!

Now, the City of Hope gives us all a chance to run and earn money that goes towards cancer research...in our underwear!

Yes, it's true!

On August 2nd, confounded and bemused LAer's will see London.
They'll see France.
They'll have a chance to see thousands run for a cure in their underpants!

Now, you may be asking yourself...Say, PL. How can I be part of raising money towards a cure for cancer and possibly get off while I'm at it?

Well, I'm glad you asked...yourself.

Step One: Visit the The Underwear Affair website.
Pick a disturbingly hilarious (yet poignant) team name and sign up as team captain. Pay your $35 entry fee.

Step Two: Have your non-non-committal friends call in and sign up under said disturbingly hilarious (yet poignant) team name.

Step Three: Each person raises at least $300 and then runs/walks like hell on August 2nd at 6pm.

While we'd like to see some Baywatch actors run the marathon in slow-mo, we'd like as many people to sign up as possible.

The total race is only about 5 miles, so, you know...put on your most non-chaffing underpants and start with all that careless stretching!

We wonder if in honor of old age, they'll make them all gray and butterscotch flavored...mmmm...just like old people*!

Well, it looks like someone went out and got themselves a PR rep!

The SANTA MONICA PIER, normally a kid infested, vibrantly whimsical eye sore, is making the biggest come back this town has seen since a post rehab/post Iron Man Robert Downy Jr!

Lindsey Lohan...take note.

On July 11th, Red Bull will sponsor some motocross dude who will attempt to jump his bike higher than the Ferris Wheel. Sounds like disastrous good times! Bring your umbrella's, because it sounds like it might rain...blood!

KCRW, radio god of all that is indie and moody, will be hosting GLOW, an all night party of the art and dance variety. Yes, on July 19th, you can dance, hang and legally loiter around from 7pm until July 20th 7am. Sounds like good times that require alot of Red Bull! We can't wait!

Not to be out-cooled, Indie 103.1 and Amoeba Music will be continuing their Twilight Dance Series on the pier. The action takes place every Thursday night at 7pm.

Bad jokes aside, the po-po are looking for a flasher that's been exposing himself all over Thousand Oaks.
It's been going on for 2 years now, and as if flashing couldn't be any creepier...he hides in trees!

Don't people in LA carry enough pepper spray/hot lattes/sharp edged cell phones to where they could just take this weirdo down on their own?

If you help the po-po catch him, there's $1000 bucks in it for you...and you can live out all of your Dog the Bounty Hunter fantasies while doing so!

And as for the flasher, we feel it is our civic duty as a blogger to address him with this open letter:

Dear Flasher,

Seriously, dude, what's the thrill?
People see your junk.
Ok. We got it.
But that's it?
You just want people to see your junk?

There's a little thing out there called the internet, dear sir, and on it you may expose yourself to millions of people...all from the comfort of your own home. Why, just imagine-No more scraped knees shimming naked up trees! No more being hunted by the police. In fact, you might even make a buck or two at it.

So, seriously...Stop with the tree jumping out of and flashing.
No one's impressed and frankly after 2 years, it's gotten a little old.
Try mixing it up...maybe jump out of trees fully clothed?

Movie's to Marinate In

So maybe you need a weekend to just sort through alot of emotions.
So maybe you made a decision that has cut through you like a cold knife into butter.

Sometimes you can drown your sorrows in a tall, dirty martini. But for the times when you just can't drown them away, you just need to marinate in them a little. To aid in the marinating of emotions, there are plenty of movies being revived for the weekend.

Case of the Mean Reds? Breakfast at Tiffany's showing at the Angel City Drive In on Saturday.

Emotional Marinating either begins or ends this way.

Exhausted by the man who knew too little? Take a Break and watch The Man Who Knew too Much on Saturday at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Want to zone out and watch people punch each other alot? Fists of Fury is a good bet at the New Beverly Cinema tonight and Saturday.

Maybe watching people fall in love and then one of them dies at the end is your cup of tea. Love Story is playing on Sunday at the Egyptian Theatre.

Brendan Ryan's clear and soulful vocals, reminiscent of old school Mavericks, helps the painfully profound and real lyrics go down...in the most delightful way, of course!

We kind of can't pick a favourite song as they're all pretty delicious ear candy, but we thought we'd give a special shout out to It Would be Funny and Change Your Mind, both tunes destined to become backdrops for scene's in tv shows with pretty-people-with-problems-who-give-long-speeches-about-things-that-usually-work-themselves-out in-the-end-anyway*.
